Today I was worried I’d have much less sewing done than I do. Part of this was because it’s week two, and part of it was because I knew a large portion of my morning was going to be taken up with fixing the dripping bathtub in my bathroom. Luckily the repair went fairly quickly, and even though I started later than i had hoped, I did manage to get all the major machine sewing done for this week’s puppet. As you can sort of see in the pictures she’s going to have chocolate colored skin, white hair, and a purple torso, with yellow sleeves.
The yarn wig thing I’m still getting the hang of, and haven’t found a method of construction I’m entirely happy with just yet. The hands are going to be hand stitched again this week. I used to do all the hand stitching using the machine, but I regularly was unhappy with the way the fingers would end up with strange stitched in the “webbing” between the fingers area. With the Len puppet last week I used the machine for the long straight stretches and then hand stitched around the fingers (just a locking whip-stitch… which is the primary type of stitch I use when hand sewing pieces together) and I was very pleased with them.
We’ve (re?)instituted a family story half-hour in the evenings, and on the evenings when I’m not the designated narrator I’ll be doing my hand stitching… I can’t remember if it’s my turn tonight or not.
